Councillor Clarrie MacKinnon has been involved politically for over 50 years. He was elected to Council in the Municipality of the County of Pictou in 1970 at age 24, elected three times in the Municipality of East Hants, served for 8 years on the former Colchester-East Hants School Board, was MLA for Pictou East for two terms, and has been elected to Westville Council twice.
Clarrie grew up in Westville’s Black Diamond and attended Chelsea, Victoria and Church St. schools graduating from WHS as President of the Class of 1965. He has a BA in Political Science and History, a Master of Marine Management from Dalhousie worked on a Ph.D. part-time for six years at which time he was elected to the Nova Scotia Legislature.
Work experiences, for Clarrie, have included radio, TV, and print media news and the public and private sectors of the fishing industry. He has been married to Mary K. (MacLellan) of Thorburn for over 55 years and they have three children and four grandchildren.
