The Recreation Department offers many programs and activities in Active Living, Outdoor Recreation, Sport Development, and Arts & Culture as well as Leisure Services. Recreation Committee

The Recreation Committee works with the Recreation Coordinator, governmental agencies, and civic groups to improve and expand the parks, sports, and recreation programming and planning in Westville.

It was established by Council in 2021 and is made up of six voting members from the public, and up to five nonvoting members, including one representative from the school district, if possible, two representatives from Council, one director and/or one staff liaison

The purpose of this cooperative partnership amongst six municipalities in Pictou County is to educate and motivate all citizens to increase their daily physical activity in an effort to create a happier, healthier and active community. The brand Active Pictou County was created as the driving force for this purpose. 

Active Pictou County staff assist with a variety of projects that promote physical activity on a regional level; such as after school programs, trail development, active transportation and improving access to programs and services.
