Westville Recreation’s mission is to provide sport and recreational opportunities that contribute to and enhance of quality of life for the residents of the Town of Westville. This is achieved by providing direct programs, supporting community groups, and providing advice and assistance.

Facilities Management which includes Planning for Maintenance of Facilities as well as Developing Plans for Improvements and Expansion of Facilities

Effective April 2014, the Town Works Department assumed responsibility for maintenance of:

ØAcadia Park – trails/bridges, gazebo, miners monument, flower beds & green spaces

ØVictoria Park – track, tennis court, green spaces

ØBall Fields – Victoria and Pioneer

ØRecreation Building

ØBasketball Court

ØOutdoor Rink

The Recreation Department works with volunteer organizations, business and community representatives, neighbouring municipal units, local residents, community groups and various partners within the government sector to improve the quality of life of our residents. Community feedback is welcome as we strive to deliver services that support healthy lifestyles. Questions or comments can be directed to the recreation office by phone, email, or mail.

The Town of Westville offers numerous recreational facilities for all ages. In addition to the playgrounds and walking trails/track in the Acadia and Victoria Parks, there are two Baseball Fields (Pioneer and Victoria), the Westville Miner’s Sports Centre, the Curling Club, the Recreation Building, basketball and tennis courts, as well as an outdoor rink in the winter months.

Westville is host to the largest Canada Day celebration in Atlantic Canada. Events span over five days and provide all the fun of a country fair plus a giant street parade with guest bands from around the world. Members of the Fire Department work diligently over the course of months to provide the Canada Day Celebrations.


Jimmy Hawboldt/Fred Lays Sr. Memorial Road Racehawbolt lays -Labour Day
Runners and spectators alike are encouraged to attend this annual event held on Labour Day! Runners of all ages from the local area and beyond participate. The event boosts a 1-mile, 5-mile and children’s races complete with prizes, medals and refreshments. Registration begins on Labour Day at 8:30am in the Civic Building Gym located at 2042 Queen Street. Registration Fee is $10. per participant. The annual event is held in Westville to pay tribute to the late Jimmy Hawboldt and Fred Lays, Sr. for their athletic accomplishments and contributions to the sport of running. Family support is evident not only by the runners, but by the tremendous support from the Lays and Hawboldt families in running the race. A great family event!

Facility Rentals

The Town’s Baseball fields and Parks are available for the public to use for events. Public access cannot be limited, and we request a Facility Use Form be submitted to the Recreation Office at least two weeks prior to the event. Please note: There is a rental fee associated with booking the Pioneer Baseball Field with an additional charge for using the lights. Facility Use Forms are available at the Westville Town Office.

The Civic Building Gym and Recreation Building are available for rent. To book your event, please call the Westville Town Office at 396-1500.

The Westville Fire Department hosts an Antique Car Show annually on the Sunday preceding Labour Day in the Victoria Park.

The Town of Westville is host to a number of Christmas Events including a Tree Lighting Ceremony, Light Exchange, and Parade of Lights.
